Umbel of Yellow

What I am guessing is some kind of Lomatium (parsley family) showing off one of its brilliant umbels of yellow. These flowers are tiny, tiny. Check it out large on black if you like.

I used a 2x extender with my 105 macro lens for the first time and liked the extra working distance. On the other hand, I think I will probably use the 1.4x in the future as it might deliver a bit more clarity with that combo.

Large on black canvas | My favorite shots

Location: Down every road.

Description: This ordinary blowball was shot somewhere down the road using a soft direct (built-in) flash for background exclusion to emphasize its brightest parts. Something that often works very well on bright sunlit day. To get rid of some background junk, I used the Burn tool in some parts around the flowers. Unfortunately, I cant get much closer then this due to macro limitations of my camera. Nothing special again, except that I liked its crepuscular charm.

Exposure: 1/100s at f/8.
Technique: PS color and contrast enhancements.

These spring ephemerals were found at the International Crane Foundation. Ephemerals are very short-lived, their life cycle being timed to emerge early and ensure reproduction before the sun is blocked out by the leaves of towering trees. They then die and remain dormant until the following spring, when they do it again.
