A slide film photo scanned in (the slide really is better, wish I had a decent scanner). This was taken at my sister Lynn's land in the Wet Mountains of Colorado and is her favorite. She recognizes every tree in the photo!

This is certainly an easier shot to pull of with film for me. But I have yet to try my new D70 out on some star trails and am curious how it will fare with noise levels. The yellow at the bottom of the photo is the light pollution from Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Fort Carson. The green is partially from reciprocity failure (some hate it, but I actually like the look it gives at times).
My sister still has a great night sky for star gazing!
Due to popular demand I am adding some helpful info on how to do this yourself. I used Fuji Provia 100F slide film for this photo and shot at either F5.6 or F8. I bracket exposures at 8, 15, 30 and 60 mins if I have enough time, sometimes I go for shorter and longer times as well, but that's a good starting place. I am not certain which exposure I used here (no EXIF data on my slide film, hah). I would fathom a guess my exposure was in the range of 30-60 mins though. ¤ On Black ¤
Now that it's Christmas, I will share a special photograph with you.
This is a photo of a bison tromping across the bacterial mat in front of the Grand Prismatic Spring--the largest hot spring in North America, and third largest in the world.
The story goes that I was minding my own business, composing images of the Grand Prismatic, when all the tourists started fussing and massing along the boardwalk above the bacterial mat in front of the hot spring. I didn't pay much attention to them at first, but eventually I had to pull away from the viewfinder to see what the commotion was all about. Wow! A bison was leisurely making his way towards the Grand Prismatic, splash-stomp, splash-stomp, splash-stomp through the pungent water. Me, being totally unprepared for this, swung my tripod around and started tracking him and tripping the shutter.
Shooting through a 2-stop graduated neutral density filter and a polarizer really slowed down my shutter, which explains the subject motion in the leg, tail, and back. Upon closer inspection, it's possible to see the water splashing from his front hoof--very cool!
My favorite areas are the reflection of the bison and the rich hues throughout. I love the layered framing--the cornered sky leading into the hills, which offset the steam rising from the spring; on the bottom the bright oranges are nicely divided by parallel reliefs in the bacterial mat, which have a nice diagonal symmetry with the sky and hill lines. I wish I had time to change to a different lens, or at least remove my filers, but in this unique circumstance, I will take what I can get.
For those wondering where I was, follow this Wikipedia link, and click on the overhead image. In the larger sizes a couple is visible walking along the boardwalk found on the bottom of the image. I was located on the left side of the wider area just above the walkers. The bison was walking from upper-right to lower-left--he never stopped or paid any attention to the legions of onlookers, while he made his way to graze in the Midland Geyser Basin.

Looking up at the financial building at night it presented a weird sight, the top covered by clouds but lighting up the sky making everything seem grey. The images presented almost appear cartoon like but have had no modification; it was just down to the surreal light.

Green Lynx Spider; Peucetia viridans. Lynx spiders get their name from the way that they sometimes pounce on their prey in a catlike fashion. These spiders spend their time hunting for insects in bushes and low plants. They are fast runners, but can occasionally be seen lying in wait for prey beside flowers. They build no web for prey capture, but they do release a silk dragline as they hunt among leaves. This is a very bright green spider, about ¾ inch (19 mm) in length, with long, spiny legs and an oblong to oval abdomen.

But I really wanted to explain to this tourist that the eiffel tower is on the opposite side :-)
this picture with the dancer was really taken like this under the eiffel tower (like previous). But the photographer was added with PS. In the original version a man was also under the legs of the dancer and it is the reason why I shooted :-)) but it was not funny and highly philosophical enough. In the background, you can see the montparnasse tower and the military academy (but it is just a detail for architecture lovers....)

Tanto el tórax como el abdomen de esta mosca presentan un color verde metálico muy brillante. Aparecen sobre los excrementos de los animales, sobre cadáveres, barro putrefacto, sobre ellos se alimentan y se aparean.
Las hembras ponen varios centenares de huevos que tienen un desarrollo muy rápido. Sin embargo, el número de ejemplares se ve diezmado por los pájaros, los murciélagos, y sobre todo, los fríos y las lluvias.
This fly belongs to the Calliphoridae family and is bluish green to emerald, often becoming coppery with age. The eyes are bare and the jowls silvery. The 4th long vein in the wing is sharply bent, and the size varies. It is found on dung, carrion and flowers everywhere, but not often found indoors. The larvae can sometimes be found in wounds on sheep and other animals.
